Curated Closet is built by Curated Belonging ("we," "us"). We care about the same things you do: dignity, calm, and keeping the things you love in your own hands. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it — in plain language.
1. Who this policy applies to
Curated Closet is designed for adults who want a calmer relationship with their wardrobe. The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you're a parent and believe your child has signed up, please contact us and we'll remove the account and its data.
2. What we collect
Account information
- Your email address (required for sign-in and account recovery)
- Display name and, if you choose, a preferred name for Donna
- Password hash (bcrypt) if you set an email/password login, OR a Google identifier if you sign in with Google
- A session cookie (
session_token) that keeps you signed in for up to 7 days
Your closet
- Photos of clothing you choose to upload
- Item metadata you provide (name, category, color, brand, notes, owner within your household)
- Background-removed versions of your uploaded photos, generated on your behalf
- Wear history when you tap "worn today" or log an outfit
Your profile (optional, only what you fill in)
- Body measurements, sizes, and fit preferences you enter
- Style notes you write for our stylist AI, "Donna"
- Onboarding answers about style goals, preferred colors, colors you avoid, and communication preference
Donna add-on features (optional, only if you use them)
If you use one of Donna's optional add-ons, we collect and store the following, scoped to your account only:
- Personal Styling Guide — the guidance Donna returns; optionally the photo you uploaded. If you don't check "Keep this photo permanently," we auto-delete the original photo 30 days after your result is saved. The written result stays until you delete it.
- Outfit Review — the photo you upload, the review Donna returns, and any Loved / Needs Changes / Not for Me feedback + notes you add. Same 30-day auto-delete for the original photo unless you opt to keep it. Reviews stay until you delete them.
- Color Analysis — the photo you upload, the season estimate and palette Donna returns, and any corrections you make. Same 30-day auto-delete for the photo unless you opt to keep it.
All EXIF and GPS metadata is stripped from photos on upload. Every add-on result includes a permanent Delete button that removes both the result and the original photo forever.
Usage
- Basic technical logs (timestamps, request paths, response codes) used only to keep the service running and debug errors
- Which features you use so we can enforce beta limits and prevent abuse
We do NOT collect
- Location (no GPS, no IP-based geolocation lookup)
- Contacts, calendar, microphone audio, or health data
- Advertising identifiers (we do not run ads and do not sell data to advertisers)
3. How we use your data
- To show you your closet on any device you sign in from
- To let our stylist AI ("Donna") suggest outfits from what you already own
- To generate background-removed cutouts, styling guides, outfit reviews, and color analyses at your request
- To enforce beta limits (e.g., 1 free Color Analysis, 1 free Personal Styling Guide, 5 free Outfit Reviews per tester)
- To communicate with you about your account (invitation codes, sign-in emails, product updates you opt into)
- To fulfill payments if you subscribe or buy add-ons
We do not use your photos, measurements, or Donna conversations to train third-party AI models. We do not sell your personal information. Photos and results are private to the authenticated user's account and are never shown to other users.
4. Third-party services we rely on
We use a small number of trusted providers to run the service. Each only receives the minimum data needed to do its job.
- Emergent — hosts the app, database, and object storage; runs the "Donna" stylist AI on our behalf.
- OpenAI (via Emergent) — powers the text side of Donna's stylist responses.
- Google Gemini (via Emergent) — powers the vision analysis inside the optional Outfit Review, Personal Styling Guide (when a photo is attached), and Color Analysis features. Photos sent for vision analysis are processed and discarded by the provider; we retain only the resulting written guidance and, if you opt in, the original photo.
- Google Sign-In — used only if you choose to sign in with Google. We receive your Google email and a stable identifier. We do not receive your Google password.
- Stripe — processes any subscription payment on the web. We never see or store your full card number.
- Apple In-App Purchase — after beta, processes any one-time add-on purchase inside the iOS app. We never see or store your Apple ID payment details.
- Resend — delivers transactional emails (invitation codes, password reset). Your email address is shared with Resend for the sole purpose of delivery.
- Apple TestFlight (beta only) — Apple provides crash logs and beta feedback per Apple's privacy policy.
5. Where your data lives and how long we keep it
- Data is stored on Emergent-hosted infrastructure in the United States.
- Uploaded photos are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
- We keep your account data as long as your account is active.
- Add-on photos are auto-deleted 30 days after the result is saved unless you explicitly checked "Keep this photo permanently" at upload time. Results and metadata stay until you delete them.
- If you delete your account, we permanently remove your closet items, profile, measurements, photos, and add-on results within 30 days. Non-personal aggregates (e.g., "N testers redeemed a code this week") may be retained.
- Technical logs are automatically rotated within 30 days.
6. Your rights
Whether or not you live in a jurisdiction that requires it (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of what we have on you
- Correct — fix anything wrong in your profile
- Delete — erase your account and its data
- Export — receive your closet items in a machine-readable format
- Opt out — of any non-transactional email at any time

7. Security
We use industry-standard measures — TLS for all traffic, bcrypt for passwords, httpOnly Secure cookies for sessions, admin-locked settings endpoints — to protect your data. No system is perfect. If we discover a breach that affects you, we'll notify you promptly.
8. Children
Curated Closet is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If a user has indicated they are under 18, Donna uses extra-neutral, clothing-only language in add-on features and skips face-framing analysis entirely.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make a substantive change, we'll update the "Effective" date above and, if it affects how we use existing data, we'll email active account holders before it takes effect.
